At Vidya we offer a variety of general āsana classes in order to meet the needs of a wide range of students. Our general classes incorporate the teachings of Hatha Yoga with a particular emphasis on precision in alignment. The principles of Āyurveda also inform the focus of our classes throughout the different seasons. Whether you are seeking the benefits of Yoga for physical health, stress reduction, mental calm or a spiritual deepening, our classes are designed to address a variety of interests and levels of practice.
In addition, class attendance may be complemented with individual consultations. These can be most helpful in the processes of cultivating a home practice, addressing specific health concerns and/or exploring individual progress and development.

Students with an interest in developing their home practice or in deepening their practice in general can greatly benefit from individual sessions. In these consultations, the teacher can tailor the āsanas to the student’s unique constitution and needs. Alternately, individual classes can serve as an introduction to Yoga for those who feel they are not ready for general classes or who are not able to attend classes on a regular basis.

In addition to our general classes, Vidya Institute offers several kinds of specialized classes for those who may prefer, or require, a more individualized or gentle approach to posture (asana) and breath practices. Restorative Yoga, Gentle Yoga and Yoga for various physical/mental health concerns are all offered on either a drop-in or pre-registered basis. In these classes we draw on the rich teachings held within the sister-disciplines of Yoga and Ayurveda. As such, health, healing and the facilitation of overall well-being is our primary focus in these classes. Individual consultations are also recommended as a complementary support for these teachings.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Mindfulness is the miracle by which we master and restore ourselves.
-Thich Nhat Han
Please note that we are not currently offering these classes.
Based on the wisdom of ancient Buddhist teachings, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn’s model of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) offers a range of tools to help individuals cope with stress, fatigue, anxiety, and more.
In the 8-week stress-reduction course offered at Vidya Institute, we explore practices that center on the body and the mind as well as the breath. The teachings in this program are designed to aid the individual in balancing the nervous system and cultivating the capacity to bring mindfulness into everyday life and experience.
