Vidya Institute is dedicated to the teaching of classical Yoga and ancient Wisdom traditions in a way that highlights their relevance to our contemporary world. At the heart of our teachings is a belief in a holistic approach to health and self-transformation- an approach that takes into consideration the whole person. Our workshops, year courses and training programs reflect this intention. We also offer a variety of drop in āsana classes, as well as individual consultations.
Vidya programs are open to both local and international students, particularly those with an interest in continuing education as professionals or teachers of Yoga. The Institute also works in collaboration with the B.K.S Iyengar Yoga Centre Copenhagen, Denmark and Nipissing University (North Bay, Ontario). For more details, see Partnerships below.
Vidya Institute is committed to providing students with a course of practice and study that is grounded in the tradition of Classical Yoga while recognizing that Yoga is a journey that holds a living balance between physical-mental cultivation (practice) and intensive study. Our teachings are divided into various levels, reflecting differences in intensity and content in regards to material taught.
Vidya Institute is run by Gitte Bechsgaard RP, Gillian McCann and Krishan Mantri. Gitte and Gillian founded Vidya Institute together in 2002 under the guidance of Krishan Mantri. The Institute has since expanded and moved from its original space, continuing to grow under the care of its primary faculty.
All of the general class teachers at Vidya have been practicing and studying Yoga for at least six years and have completed their foundational training at the Institute. Additionally, all teachers have an academic background in relevant areas, bringing unique experience and skills to their work with Yoga.
